Comrade Alhassan Yahya, the immediate past National Deputy President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has been elected as the new President of the union.
Yahya, who hails from Gombe State, emerged victorious at the 8th Triennial Delegates Conference held in Owerri, Imo State.
Yahya secured a total of 436 votes, defeating his closest rival, Dele Atunbi, who polled 97 votes. Mohammed Garba came third with 39 votes
Mrs. Abimbola Oyetunde emerged as the Deputy National President unopposed, while Mrs. Ronke Afebioye Samo was re-elected unopposed as the Vice President Zone B. Other executive members of the union were also elected unopposed.
In his acceptance speech, Yahya pledged to provide all-inclusive leadership, uniting journalists across the country.

The Chairman of the Bauchi State Council of NUJ, Comrade Umar Sa’idu, has congratulated Yahya on his election, describing it as a well-deserved victory.
Sa’idu expressed confidence in Yahya’s ability to provide the necessary leadership to promote the welfare of journalists and advance the interests of the union
The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Gombe State Council of the NUJ also congratulated Yahya, expressing confidence in his ability to deliver on his promises
Yahya’s election marks a new era for the NUJ, with expectations high that he will unite and lead the union towards progress and professionalism.
As the new President, Yahya will serve a three-year term, leading the union’s efforts to promote the welfare of journalists and advance the interests of the media industry.
