A Nongovernmental Organizations (NGO) Youth Adolescent Health Initiative and Counselling (YAHIC), says it will partner the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council to empower women in Moringa production and Gender Based Violence (GBV) prevention.
Miss Eswayi Ikpi, Executive Director, YAHIC, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) disclosed this during a consultative visit to the NUJ Secretariat in Bauchi on Monday.
Ikpi, said that the organisation was committed to empowering 90 women including 15 with disabilities across three communities in the state.
She said that the project, funded by the French Embassy Fund for Civil Society Organisations (FEF-OSC), was scheduled to run from July 2025 to June 2026.
She explained that the initiative goes beyond skills acquisition in moringa cultivation and processing.
According to her, it also aims to combat poverty, malnutrition, gender inequality, and gender-based violence (GBV), while promoting climate-resilient agricultural practices.
”The media has a crucial role to play in amplifying community-driven development initiatives and shaping public discourse on gender and social inclusion.
She therefore called on the NUJ in Bauchi to support the project through consistent media coverage, advocacy, and storytelling that would highlight the voices of women and marginalised groups.
”As we prepare to inaugurate next week, we are here to seek your guidance and partnership in ensuring the success and visibility of this project.
”We also hope to build a long-term relationship that promotes shared goals of social change and community empowerment,” Ikpi said.
Responding, Mr Ahmed Kaigama, Vice Chairman, NUJ Bauchi State Council, welcomed the initiative and pledged the union’s commitment to partnering with YAHIC.
He reaffirmed the NUJ’s dedication to promoting issues of gender equity, women’s empowerment, and the fight against GBV through responsible journalism.
Kaigama commended the project’s holistic approach and reiterated the media’s critical role in transforming communities by raising awareness and driving change.
