The African Health Budget Network (AHBN), in collaboration with the Zero Dose Learning Hub Nigeria and the Bauchi State Government, has reaffirmed the critical role of women in achieving immunization equity.
Dr. Hassan Shuaibu Musa, Bauchi State Focal Person for AHBN, stated this commitment as part of activities marking International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025, under the theme “Accelerate Action. On Wednesday in Bauchi.
He emphasised the urgency of empowering women to drive immunization uptake and strengthen primary healthcare.
“With women recognized as primary caregivers and decision-makers in their households, AHBN underscored their vital role in ensuring children receive life-saving vaccines.
“According to the 2024 Bauchi State Immunization Financing Scorecard, significant progress has been made in enhancing immunization services, reflecting the state government’s dedication to improving child healthcare through increased funding and accessibility.
“Women are at the heart of community health, and their role in ensuring children receive complete immunization cannot be overstated.
Dr Musa said this year’s International Women’s Day serves as a reminder that by equipping women with the right information and access to immunization services, we can create healthier futures for our children and communities.
“As part of the initiative, women across Bauchi State are encouraged to take advantage of free immunization services available at Primary Health Centres (PHCs).
“These centers provide essential vaccines administered by trained healthcare professionals, ensuring children are protected from preventable diseases.
“AHBN and its partners are calling on community leaders, healthcare workers, and policymakers to intensify awareness efforts, dispel vaccine hesitancy, and strengthen community engagement strategies.,” He said.
Dr Musa said to further enhance immunization coverage in the State they encourage strategies such as
“Enhanced community engagement by addressing vaccine hesitancy and promoting informed decision-making among caregivers.
“Advocating for timely budget releases and improved accountability in immunization funding.
“Strengthening data collection and analysis to track immunization coverage and identify areas for intervention
“Exploring digital solutions to optimize vaccine supply chains and service delivery,” Dr Musa said.
According to him, as International Women’s Day 2025 is celebrated globally, AHBN, the Zero Dose Learning Hub Nigeria, and the Bauchi State Government reiterate their commitment to empowering women as champions of immunization.
They call on government agencies, development partners, healthcare providers, and community leaders to unite in ensuring every child in Bauchi State receives the vaccines they need to thrive.
