The Chairman,Bauchi State Technical Working Group (TWG) Committee, on Policy review of Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Alhaji Samaila Tela, has urged members to work diligently towards enhancing the WASH sector in the state.

Tela made the call at a day’s second review meeting for the TWG organised by NGO WODASS supported by Wateraid Nigeria on Friday in Bauchi.

He said this effort is part of the state’s commitment to reviewing its WASH policy in line with the harmonised water law.

‘The review aims to strengthen the WASH sector, ensuring sustainable development and improved access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities for the state’s population. he said.

“This initiative is crucial, given the current challenges faced by the state, including inadequate WASH facilities and services,” he said

Alhaji Tela emphasized the importance of collaboration and stakeholder engagement in the review process, ensuring that the new policy reflects the needs and aspirations of the state’s citizens.

The TWG Committee is expected to work closely with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and community leaders, to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive review process.

He said the government has demonstrated its commitment to addressing these challenges, with the State House Assembly signing the Vote for WASH pledge card, promising to prioritize clean water, toilets, and hygiene.

“It has also supported the review of its WASH policy, aligned its water sector law, and developed a WASH action plan and roadmap to end open defecation,” he said.
