The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) brought four suspects before Justice A.A Bello of the Kaduna State High Court on charges of alleged obstruction of lawful duty and assault against EFCC officers. The suspects, namely Rukayya Ahmed Mustapha, Sadiya Usman Mohammed, Ameera Uthman, and Nafisat Usman, faced separate one-count charges related to obstruction of lawful duty. Sadiya Usman Mohammed, specifically, was charged with obstructing EFCC officers during an official assignment on April 15, 2024, in Kaduna. All four suspects pleaded not guilty, leading the prosecution counsel, K.S Ogunlade, to request a trial date and the remand of the defendants in Kaduna Correctional Centre. Justice Bello remanded three suspects in the Kaduna Correctional Centre, while Sadiya Usman Mohammed, a nursing mother, was remanded in EFCC custody. The case was adjourned to May 2, 2024, for the hearing of bail applications. The suspects were arrested for obstructing EFCC officers attempting to arrest Hadiza Usman, who had repeatedly jumped bail and evaded charges for arraignment. During the arrest attempt, the suspects openly attacked EFCC operatives, assaulting three of them by pulling their uniforms and biting one near his collarbone and another on his left hand. Despite the confrontation, the officers maintained discipline and professionalism, successfully subduing and arresting the suspects without resorting to violence.
