The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has called on all corps members across the country to build on the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development training amid the economic crunch.
Mrs Rifkatu Yakubu, the Bauchi state Coordinator of NYSC made the call on Thursday during the distribution of the Certificate of National Service to the 2023 batch ‘C’ stream I corps members.
According to her, this would not only make them overcome the current economic hardship, but it would also make them employers of labour and contributors to the national economic growth of the country.
“I want to advise you to effectively build on all you have learned in camp and off camp during the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme.
“Go and practice all the training you have undergone because white collar jobs are no longer available and we all know the situation of the country right now.
“I want to also urge those that didn’t participate in the SAED programme during the service year that it is not too late. You can still do it,” she said.
Yakubu, who congratulated the corps members for the successful service year, called on them not to embark on night journeys.
She advised that it would be ideal and expected of those traveling far to break the journey into two so as to avoid traveling in the night.
The state Coordinator further admonished them to desist from any form of social vices as its consequences would be inimical to not only themselves, but their families, institution of graduation as well as the NYSC.
“Please, be a good ambassador of the NYSC, the school you graduated from, your families and the country at large,” she advised.
A total of 1,393 of the 2023 batch ‘C’ stream I corps members, including 881 males and 512 females received their Certificates of national service in Bauchi state.
Also, Kaan Martina Seerdoon with batch number BA/23C/0527 was awarded the Chairman Honours Award of merit.
