The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Bauchi State Command has apprehended a 23-year-old suspected vandal of electric transformer, Sadiq Safiyanu, Bauchi metropolis of the State.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Spokesperson of the command ASCII Saminu Joshua Yusuf made available to newsmen on Monday in Bauchi.

The arrest was made on December 18, 2024, at Kutaru village in Tarawa Balewa Local Government Area.

According to the Commandant, Oloyede Nelson Oyerinde, NSCDC officers on patrol caught Sadiq while attempting to vandalize an electric transformer.

“The suspect sustained severe injuries, including skin burns, when electricity was restored during the operation.

“Sadiq is currently in NSCDC custody at the state headquarters in Bauchi, and his parents have been contacted to take him to the hospital for further medical attention under supervision,” it said

The statement said the state commandant has vowed to intensify investigations to apprehend those who conspired with Sadiq to buy the vandalized transformer.

“He urged the public to report any suspected vandals to security agencies and warned vandals to desist from their acts of sabotage or face the full wrath of the law.

This arrest comes amidst efforts by the NSCDC to safeguard critical national assets and infrastructure in Bauchi State.

The command has promised to continue hunting down vandals and bringing them to justice.
