Northeast DSS meet to combat region’s security challenges

The Northeast Chairman of State Directors of the Department of Security Services (SDSS), Mr. Sani Bakori, has emphasised the need for collaborative efforts to address the region’s pressing security concerns.

Speaking at the 17th conference of State Directors of the Department of State Services on Wednesday in Bauchi, Bakori stressed the devastating impact of security challenges in the region.

He highlighted the challenges that include terrorism, insurgency, kidnapping, communal conflicts, and climate change.

“The region has faced numerous security challenges, resulting in loss of lives, displacement of millions, and significant setbacks to development and social cohesion,” Bakori noted.

Bakori who is the Gombe State Director of DSS stressed that security goes beyond the absence of violence,

He emphasising the importance of creating an environment where children can thrive, families feel safe, and education is pursued without fear.

According to the Chairman, the meeting is aims to focus on strengthening community resilience and community policing,

“Strategic collaboration and partnerships with stakeholders and addressing root causes of security challenges

Bakori urged participants to commit to functional strategies, hold each other accountable, and work towards solutions that make a tangible difference in people’s lives.

“Together, we can create a future where security is not just a dream but a reality for all citizens of the Northeast,” he concluded.

In a remark, Gov Bala Mohammed,of Bauchi State has emphasised the importance of leveraging the Department of State Services’ (DSS) expertise in intelligence gathering to combat insecurity.

Mohammed, represented by the Deputy Gov. Auwal Jatau, acknowledged the DSS’s critical role in maintaining peace and stability.

The governor stressed that addressing root causes of insecurity, such as poverty, unemployment, and social discontent, is crucial.

Earlier, Mr Nafiu Bello, State Director of Security Services expressed gratitude to Gov Mohammed for his administration’s partnership with the DSS and pledged to live up to expectations.
