The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has stepped up its nationwide citizens’ engagement campaign with renewed vigor, targeting deeper national unity, peace, and security across Nigeria.
Addressing a press briefing at the Federal Secretariat in Bauchi, the Director-General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu announced that the campaign will be rolled out simultaneously across the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and the 774 local government areas.
Represented by the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Alhaji Nuru Yusuf Kobi, the DG said the initiative will take multiple forms including press conferences, town hall meetings, advocacy visits to schools, motor parks, markets, and religious and traditional leaders among others.
He said, “The campaign will dwell on five thematic pillars including: government policies, programs and activities; flood mitigation and disaster preparedness; national security awareness; national values re-orientation; and the Nigerian Identity Project, with renewed emphasis on national symbols.”
The NOA DG noted that the agency is advancing this vision through sensitization drives such as the National Value Charter, which seeks to instill responsible citizenship and ethical conduct among Nigerians.
In a significant highlight, the NOA boss applauded the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its recent operation that dismantled a sophisticated cybercrime syndicate in the country boasting that “Nigeria will never be a haven for criminality.”
“Cybercriminals, whether foreign nationals or citizens, must realise that enforcement agencies are vigilant, well-equipped, and determined to bring perpetrators to justice,” Issa-Onilu warned.
He further, urged stakeholders—community leaders, traditional rulers, schools, civil society groups, and the media to strengthen positive values and collaborate with government in building a culture rooted in patriotism, integrity, and civic responsibility.
