Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented Anambra South District, has passed away at the age of 52. His death was confirmed by the Nigerian Senate on Saturday, July 27. The spokesperson for the Senate, Yemi Adaramodu, made the announcement, stating that an official statement would follow soon (Muchee).
According to reports, Ubah died in London after traveling there for medical treatment. He had been busy preparing for a potential 2025 governorship bid in Anambra State, which reportedly took a toll on his health. A top official from the APC in Anambra State confirmed that Ubah slumped in London on Friday and went into a coma before passing away the next day (Muchee).
Senator Ubah was a prominent figure in Nigerian politics and business. He was the CEO of Capital Oil and Gas Industries Ltd and owned the Ifeanyi Ubah FC, a professional football club. Ubah’s political career began with the Young Progressives Party (YPP), under which he was first elected to the Senate in 2019. He later defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and was re-elected in 2023 (Muchee).
In September 2022, Ubah survived an assassination attempt when gunmen attacked his convoy in Anambra State. The attack resulted in the deaths of at least five people, including two police officers, but Ubah survived due to his bulletproof vehicle (Muchee).
Senator Ubah was known for his philanthropic efforts, particularly in education and healthcare, and was a strong advocate for youth empowerment and development in Anambra State. His death comes just two days after the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, also passed away (Muchee).
