The Tafiyan Matasan Arewa (Northern Youths Movement) Bauchi State Chapter has expressed deep concern over the recent arrest of Professor Usman Yusuf, a renowned advocate for social justice and human rights.

Mr Abdulrasheed Maidawa, Bauchi State Chairman made the lamentation at a news conference at NUJ Press center Bauchi on Friday.

According to him, the group believes that the Tinubu-led administration should focus on addressing pressing national challenges, such as insecurity, hunger, health issues, and economic difficulties, rather than targeting critics.

It could be recalled that Prof. Yusuf’s arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged N4 billion fraud has sparked widespread condemnation.

Maidawa described the arrest as an affront to personal freedoms and a direct attack on the principles of justice, equity, and free speech.

He emphasized that the challenges facing Nigeria are monumental, from escalating insecurity to widespread hunger, unemployment, inflation, and inadequate healthcare.

They called on the administration to engage in constructive dialogue with critics and work collaboratively to find solutions to the nation’s problems.

The Chairman demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Professor Yusuf, stressing that his voice is vital in the ongoing struggle for justice and equity in Nigeria.

He urged all citizens, civil society organizations, and human rights advocates to stand in solidarity with Prof.Yusuf and speak out against this unjust action.
