Former President Obasanjo Urges Community Policing to Address Nigeria’s Deteriorating Security

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed deep concerns over Nigeria’s worsening security situation, calling for community policing to tackle the issue.

Obasanjo made the remarks during a courtesy visit to the Bauchi State Council of Traditional Rulers at the Palace of the Emir of Bauchi on Sunday.

“The situation of insecurity in Nigeria today has degenerated so badly.

“We need to do something urgently about this. The best form of security is community policing because everyone knows his/her neighbors within the community.”Obasanjo said

Obasanjo emphasized the importance of community policing, citing its effectiveness in identifying and addressing security threats at the local level.

“During our terms in office, we prioritized the security of lives and properties across the country.

“Right now, we need to do something urgently about this.” He said

Obasanjo stressed the need for collective efforts, peace, unity, and inclusivity for national progress.

“We need peace, unity, and collective support in this country if we must move forward.

“Things can be right and good again in the country, all we need to do is to get united and do things collectively.”Obasanjo said.

Earlier, Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, welcomed Obasanjo, citing his visit as a testament to the state’s good governance.

“Former President Obasanjo is in Bauchi to share in the joy of the good governance being provided by our administration,” Abdulkadir said.

The Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, commended Obasanjo’s presence and emphasized peace, unity, and peaceful coexistence.

“We are happy to have you, Former President Obasanjo, in Bauchi,” the Emir said. “Peace, unity, and inclusivity are essential for our country’s progress.”

During his visit, Obasanjo inaugurate distribution of hearing aids to 10,000 people in North East region through Olusegun Obasanjo foundation

He commissioned three road projects executed by the Bauchi State Government to facilitate easy transportation and development.

The visit highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges and promoting national development.
