Bauchi students secured a thrilling 2-1 victory over Gombe students in the football finals of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) Secondary Schools Sports Tournament, while Adamawa students claimed third place
The tournament, held in Bauchi, aimed to promote unity, peace, and regional integration among students from Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe states.
Alhaji Goni Alkali, NEDC’s Managing Director at the grand finale on Friday in Bauchi emphasised the tournament’s goal of fostering peace and unity among the region’s youth.
He praised the students’ outstanding performance, noting it was an excellent showcase of secondary school talent
Alkali, represented by Mr Joshua Ibrahim head of operations of the commission said the tournament encouraged students to socialise, promote sportsmanship, and strive for academic excellence.
The athletics over results across the six participating states Taraba 6 gold, 2 silver, 0 bronze = 8 medals, Adamawa 3 gold, 4 silver, 1 bronze = 8 medals
Others are Gombe 0 gold, 1 silver, 5 bronze = 6 medals, Bauchi 0 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze = 2 medals, Yobe 0 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze = 3 medals and Borno 0 gold, 0 silver, 0 bronze = 0 medals
Other sports featured in the tournament included, Lawn Tennis, Basketball, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Athletics
The MD said best-performing players were selected for scholarships to further their education, providing a valuable opportunity for the region’s youth
In her remark, Dr. Jamila Dahiru, Bauchi Commissioner of Education, represented by Dr Ali Babayo Permanent Secretary
thanked NEDC for hosting the grand finale in Bauchi.
She encouraged students to remain focused, seize opportunities, and engage in sporting activities.
