A public affairs analyst Mr Rice David Zull has hailed the Bauchi State Government’s recent initiative to gather memoranda for the creation of additional emirates, chiefdoms, and districts, who described the move as a progressive step toward inclusion and the preservation of indigenous identities.

This is contained In a public statement issued on Thursday, in Bauchi Zull commended Governor Bala Mohammed for what he termed a “paradigmatic shift” in governance.

He noted that Bauchi, one of Nigeria’s most ethnically diverse states, has long operated under traditional structures inherited from the colonial era, which often marginalized several indigenous communities.

“The governor’s decision signals a bold effort to accommodate more indigenous groups in governance, decentralize authority, and formally recognize historically sidelined communities,” Zull stated.

He emphasized the importance of traditional institutions in preserving cultural heritage, especially in the face of modern challenges like urbanization and globalization.

According to him, creating new emirates and chiefdoms affirms the legitimacy of diverse identities and provides a framework for their cultural and administrative representation.

However, Zull cautioned that for the reform to succeed, the government must ensure fair resource allocation, empower traditional institutions through capacity-building, and establish clear legal frameworks to guide their functions.

“This move is not just administrative; it’s a moral imperative for a state as rich in heritage as Bauchi. When implemented sincerely, it will strengthen local governance, promote justice, and preserve the dignity of every community,” he added.

He concluded by calling the reform a response to growing public demand for inclusion.

“Such calls have existed and will continue as society evolves. Meeting them is key to inclusive governance and sustainable development.” Zull said
