The Nigerian Hotel association (NHA) urges it’s members to ignore any move been made by the National institute for hospitality and tourism (NIHOTOUR) to register hotel personnel as it is not part of there duties.
This directive was given by the President His Highness Eze Dr Patrick C. Anyanwu the National president of The Nigerian Hotel Association (NHA) in a press conference on Tuesday at the Nigeria union of journalists (NUJ) secretariat Bauchi.
The president says he represents NHA which is a body representing hotel owners across the 36 states called the police meeting to address to some important concerns concerning the industry and it’s members.
According to him the Honourable minister NIHOTOUR had announced plans to register and train hotel personnel,however registration is not part of their duties by law registration falls under the the tourism and Development Authority (NTDA).
The President says that after the protest and wide consultations the NIHOTOUR has suspended it’s exercise till further notice this decision came as a huge relief and step forward considering the confusion and pressure to hotel owners nationwide.
According to him Hotel industry plays a vital role in Nigeria’s Economy by creating jobs, creating revenue,and accomodating visitors from all over the world, he also thanked the chairman of the senate committee who listened to their concerns and assured that he will protect hoteliers right and create a better environment.
The president made it clearly that the suspension of NIHOTOUR fee collection is still in force, be also assured his members to stand by the and work closely with the government in making the industry a better place.
The president appreciated the Honourable minister for intervening in the situation as well as the Senate Committee Chairman for his assurance and legislative support, he added that together we can Build a stronger hospitality and tourism sector that reflects the true potential of Nigeria.
