Bauchi Gov approves over N872M for primary healthcare funding

Gov Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State has approved the release of N872,361,631.99 as the state’s counterpart funding for the Primary Healthcare (PHC) Basket Fund.
The announcement was made by the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Auwal Jatau, during a meeting of the State Task Force on Primary Healthcare and an award presentation ceremony held at the Government House Banquet Hall, Bauchi.
According to the Deputy Governor, N261,708,491.00 has already been disbursed to the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Board.
He emphasized that this financial commitment reflects the state government’s dedication to expanding access to quality healthcare, upgrading infrastructure, and supporting frontline health workers to ensure all citizens regardless of location or status receive essential medical services.
“In today’s meeting, we will review the progress made on the action points agreed upon during the Annual Primary Health Care Retreat, provide updates on the Q1 2025 PHC Annual Operational Plan, and prepare for the upcoming National Immunization Polio Days (NIPDs) in April 2025,” he said.
The Deputy Governor expressed profound appreciation to health workers, local government health teams, facility managers, and community volunteers for their relentless efforts in advancing healthcare delivery across the state.
“Today’s awards are a token of our immense gratitude. This administration will continue to roll out impactful programs and make significant investments to enhance the health and well-being of our citizens, particularly women and children, in both rural and urban areas,” he added.
He reiterated the administration’s resolve under Gov Mohammed to ensure necessary funding is consistently provided in the journey toward achieving Universal Health Coverage in the state.
The Deputy Governor further appreciated these partners for their technical and financial contributions and called for renewed commitment toward building a healthier Bauchi State.
Also contributing, development partners including UNICEF, WHO, Alive & Thrive, and FHI360 commended the Bauchi State Government for creating an enabling environment for healthcare interventions.
They acknowledged the government’s strong support, which has allowed them to operate effectively and contribute meaningfully to improving health outcomes in the state.
Also speaking at the event, the Co-Chair of the State Task Force on Primary Healthcare and Emir of Dass, Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu Othman, praised the progress made in implementing health programs and acknowledged the joint efforts that have led to significant milestones.
