Mr Abubakar Suleiman, Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, has emphasized the crucial role of youth and women participation in politics for national development and growth.

Suleiman made the call while receiving the leadership of Leadtots Development Initiatives on an advocacy visit in Bauchi on Monday.

Suleiman stressed that young people are the backbone of societal development, and their involvement in politics and parliament is vital.

“Youth participation in politics is essential for harnessing their creative ideas, energy, and innovative thinking.

“When young individuals occupy leadership positions, especially in the legislature, good results are assured,”Suleiman said.

Suleiman praised the Assembly for being youth-friendly and supportive of policies enhancing young people’s lives and encouraging political engagement.

“We have consistently demonstrated our commitment to youth empowerment through legislative interventions and policy formulations,” he added.

The Speaker commended Leadtots for providing a platform for mentoring youth and women, acknowledging their contributions to promoting qualitative participation in parliament and decision-making.

Earlier, Mr Nicholas Oshojah Afeso, Executive Director of Leadtots, described the organization as a youth and women-focused NGO utilizing innovative approaches for empowerment and voice amplification in sustainable development.

“Leadtots aims to create an inclusive environment where young people and women can actively participate in policy discussions and decision-making processes,” Oshojah said.

Oshojah proposed a partnership with the state assembly to co-host the youth democracy dialogue in Bauchi, aiming to engage youth in policy discussions impacting their lives.

“This partnership will provide a unique opportunity for young people to engage with policymakers and contribute to shaping the future of Bauchi State,” Oshojah added.
