Bauchi govt establishes directorates in LGAs to tackle crisis

The Bauchi State Government has established Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) directorates in all the 20 local government Areas (LGAs) to tackle WASH crisis in the State.

Mr Abdurrazak Zaki,Commissioner for Water Resources in the State stated this during inauguration of implementation Committee of the directorates on Friday in Bauchi

He reaffirmed the state’s commitment to ensuring universal access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene services.

“This milestone marks a crucial step towards promoting community development, improving health outcomes, and enhancing the overall quality of life for our citizens.

“By working together, we can build a healthier, more prosperous, and equitable
State for generations to come,” he emphasized,” he emphasised.

Zaki urged committee members to develop effective strategies, mobilize resources, and work tirelessly to achieve their goals.

Earlier, Alhaji Adamu Sabo, General Manager Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, (RUWASSA), explained that the members are from line ministries and agencies.

He said the Committee members would be responsible for establishment of directorates in 20 LGAs that consist of sections and 10 units to be headed by a professional Director.

He also urged the Committee to assiduously work towards creating formidable (WASH) directorates across the 20 local government areas.

On his part, Malam Nasiru Dewa, Member of the Committee from Local government Services commission task members to shun political interference during implementation of directorates.

He urged them to follow due process in recruiting and appointments of staff of the directorates.

Responding, Alhaji Habib Mohammed, Chairman of the Committee assured a level playing ground implementation of directorates that would enhance health outcomes in the State.

He explained that the directorates have responsibility to develop and implement WASH policies, Coordinate WASH activities across LGAs.

“Provide technical assistance to communities, monitor and evaluate WASH progress,” he said

Mohammed also pledged to complete tasks within the stipulated one month given to the committee for the implementation of the (WASH) directorates in 20 local government areas of the state.
